The PSU only has two connectors and four screws to hold it in place, once the screen has been removed (eight screws).įrom looking at the images for the 27" Mid-2011 PSU it looks to be the same Delta 310W model as the one I installed in my 2010 iMac. Very simple replacements as the 2009, 2010 and 211 models use magnets to hold the glass screen in place. Rear of the case, top right corner, was so hot I couldn't keep my hand on it for more than a few seconds, meant the CPU and logic board fans were working overtime to try to cool the adjacent components. I replaced the PSU (refurbished) and LCD Inverter board (New) in my iMac 2010, as they were both seriously over heating and the PSU made a buzzing noise. Brand New PSU's are around £110 + delivery. In the UK you can get a refurbished PSU for the mid-2011 iMac for between £60-£90 from sellers on eBay.

I think you would struggle to find an upgrade for the PSU in your 2011 iMac, I am sure Delta only made these to order for Apple, as they are not a standard fit for any other system I have seen.Ī replacement 'refurbished' PSU is not hard to find.

I am surprised Apple retained the Nvidia drivers with BS, I thought they were sure to be removed, or really locked down to a few specific SMBIOS's.

The Quadro K1100m is installed in a 27" iMac mid-2010, runs High Sierra really well, but could just as easily run Mojave, Catalina or probably Big Sur, if I was inclined to install OpenCore. We are looking at adding an 500GB SSD and looking at a WiFi/BT module upgrade at the same time, so he has ac WiFi and 4.0 BT for AirDrop, HandOff, Continuity etc.

While not a great deal better it will at least double the amount of VRAM available to the 2009 system, which can't hurt. I've offered my old card to a friend, who has an iMac Late-2009 that uses an ATI Radeon HD 4670 graphics card with only 256 MB VRAM. The ATI 5670 cards sell for around £100 because they are Apple cards. While not a great deal better it will at least double the amount of VRAM available to the 2009 system, which cant hurt. The Dell cards take the necessary Bios flash quite readily, the bios of the more readily available HP cards are not usually easily hacked. Your GTX 880m has a starting price of around £160, and that's not necessarily for a compatible Dell card.
